Awards season came to to a high fashion close Sunday night with the coup de grâce of all red carpets, The Academy Awards. There were high highs and low lows…but we’ll get to the missteps later. Let’s start this off on a high note. Both white gowns and red lips were huge trends on the carpet, and we loved how Milla Jovovich and Rooney Mara worked this look. For her first time attending the Oscars, Milla knocked it out of the park in a stunning one-shoulder Elie Saab gown and Jacob and Company jewelry. Rooney Mara rocked the red carpet in a Givenchy Couture number that she bravely wore without a single diamond to accompany it. Jessica Chastain, who we think is beyond beautiful but has made one red carpet faux pas after another all season long finally nailed it in a black and gold Alexander McQueen gown that was all kinds of haute. Honorable mentions go to Meryl Streep in Lanvin, Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji and Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli.
Now on to the worst dressed of the night. (We apologize in advance.) The Artist may have been a charming film, but Berenice Bejo’s mint green beaded Elie Saab dress was not – and the matching clutch was the nail in the coffin for this look. Jennifer Lopez is apparently training to compete in women’s figure skating and just stopped off at the Oscars on her way to the rink. We loved Shailene Woodley in The Descendants, but wish she would have picked something that made her look as young and fresh as she is. (We think her Valentino dress would have looked smashing on Helen Mirren.) Sadly, Melissa McCarthy’s Marina Rinaldi dress was a mess on many levels – from the fabric to the silhouette, color and embellishment – and we think she needs to fire her stylist, stat. Also (not pictured above) quite disappointing were Sandra Bullock in an ill-fitting Marchesa dress that did nothing for her figure and Melissa Leo in a shockingly bad sequined Reem Acra shirt dress.

Both our online and in-store buying teams hit the Alexander Wang showroom last week to see what’s on tap for Fall 2012. Standouts included covered wedge ankle boots with wider-than-usual shafts, a simple black dress with a sexy cut-out back, and leather jeans (if you already bought a pair this season, you can rest assured that they’ll still be going strong into next fall). Take a look at the rest of what we saw at Alexander Wang in the slideshow below.

Recently, the board of directors of Cedars-Sinai, along with Chairman Lawrence B. Platt, honored Elyse for her contribution to Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program and success with the Pink Party with a special dinner at Fig & Olive on Melrose Ave. Many of the Pink Party host committee members and sponsors came out to show their appreciation for Elyse, as did the director of the Women’s Cancer Program Dr. Beth Y. Karlan. Here are some highlights from the night.
