Outfit Inspiration: How to Wear A Pop of Color
We’re all about brights this summer. They’re everywhere we turn. But they’ve gotta be worn in moderation. Elyse came to work the other day in a cool summery ensemble that had just the right splash of electricity. She built her outfit around a neon tangerine A.L.C. top, which she layered under a neutral, blush-tone Haute Hippie blazer from the same color family. She paired her bright top with a silver and white print Elizabeth and James skirt that also works as a neutral and adds a textural element without competing with her vibrant top. She accessorized with long beaded necklaces from The Woods (an Elyse Walker staple!) and embellished sandals, for a pitch-perfect office outfit that can be worn straight to a post-work dinner or event. Just remember, a little color goes a long way. Happy dressing!

The cuffed ankle boot is a huge trend this fall, but it can be difficult to pull off. The easiest way to rock this urban look is to pair your booties with a knee (or slightly above the knee) length skirt and black opaque tights. Minidresses also look great with booties, and this is a clever way to carry your summer wardrobe into early fall. Instead of pairing a dress with flip flops or sandals, go for an ankle boot, and your look will be instantly updated for autumn. Our favorite ankle boots of the moment are these Alexander McQueen peppered pony hair kicks. But even if these aren’t your ultimate fall shoes, here are several other uber-cool options.

Leather skirts are back for Fall 2011! We are especially loving this deep crimson one from Balenciaga with elastic paneling (which is, by the way, a micro-trend for fall) that instantly ups the elegance-factor of any outfit. Here, Jessica paired the seasonal staple with a bold, printed Balenciaga blouse, matching Prada handbag and Giuseppe Zanotti open-toe ruffle booties. The blouse’s whimsical pattern and the ruffle detail on the shoes keep this look from seeming too serious. And that’s the key to putting together an uptown look that’s not uptight: Make sure you incorporate one or two fun details to lighten the mood!

J’aime l’automne! We’re so excited for fall! Over the past few months, we’ve shown different ways to wear sleeveless and summertime jumpsuits, but now the trend is transitioning into Fall 2011. A sleek, long sleeve jumpsuit can be a great canvas for a fall look. Add a chunky necklace or brightly colored bag like this YSL tote (available in-store). For extra drama, put on a funky fedora like this one from Costume National. While a jumpsuit can feel very retro, this one from Stella McCartney has very clean lines providing a modern starting point for a fun, edgy evening look.

Style Tip: How to Take a Cover-Up from the Beach to the Street
“Don’t limit a cute cover-up just to the pool or the sand, make it do double duty as a flirty top that you can wear in everyday life. Pair it with denim cut-offs and a pair of Jimmy Choo open-toe clogs (rather than flip flops) to dress it up. Ditch your straw tote and add a statement bag to give the look an air of sophistication. You can also dress it up with piled-on jewelry. I love Sable + Zac wrap bracelets (available in-store). Don’t be afraid to show a flash of skin: instead of a bikini top, wear a black or a colorful bra underneath a sheer or lacy cover-up, like the one pictured here from Jen’s Pirate Booty.”
