Known for their artisanal tendencies, the boys at Proenza Schouler, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, produced a powerful collection for Fall 2012 that was storied, daring, and modern all at the same time. Lazaro and Jack drew their Far East inspiration from a month-long trip to the Himalayas through Bhutan and Nepal. Playing with the idea of protection, they deconstructed the masks and samurai uniforms worn by Kendo swordsmen into wearable skirts and jackets with woven leather. Dazzling prints of landscapes and silk embroidered birds made the kimono-like eveningwear feel extra special. Of course, no discussion of Proenza Schouler would be complete with talking about their coveted bags – the PS1 and PS11 - that will be available in even more kaleidoscopic colors and sizes this Fall.

Paris Fashion Week is underway! We’re already starting to see lots of pastels for Spring 2012. Rochas sent their models down the runways in ladylike, retro head scarves and plenty of Easter egg hues, while others were accessorized with angular, futuristic sunglasses and small cross body bags. But the action wasn’t just on the runways, of course. Proenza Schouler design duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez hosted a swank party at Paris’ newest haute spot Silencio to premiere their short film Snowballs which brings to life the pair’s Navajo-inspired Fall 2011 collection.
Stay tuned for more updates from Elyse at Paris Fashion Week in the days to come!
